A Pair of 18th Century Portuguese Baroque Niches

A pair of carved and gilded chestnut architectural elements surviving as niches.

Both carved in high relief from a single section of chestnut, original untouched gilded finish still in place, they are a masterpiece of the Baroque style used throughout Porto in the early 18th century.

Portuguese, Porto, first quarter of the 18th century.

The sixty pieces in our collection were removed from a church in Porto prior to demolition in 1979/80, they have remained in storage since then until being  rediscovered earlier this year.

Price is for the pair as shown on there museum mounts.
