Both panels comprise of four leather sections mounted on board with an oil painted,  tooled and worked surfaces.

Remarkable surface detail throughout.

Portugese , late 18th Century.

Signed P.B.to one panel.

The panels originated from a family member at Soldon Manor, Devon.

The Battle of Cannae was a key engagement of the Second Punic War between the Roman Republic and Carthage. It is regarded as one of the greatest tactical
feats in military history and one of the worst defeats in Roman history. The battle cemented Hannibal Barca’s reputation as one of antiquity’s greatest tacticians.
